Senior Legal Counsel – Danone Canada
As Senior Legal Counsel at Danone Canada and member of the Canadian legal team, you will work on dynamic legal issues, namely in the food, advertising and contract sectors and give legal guidance. You will proactively assess legal risks and advise on products that aim to fulfill Danone’s mission. You will be at the forefront of exciting partnerships and negotiations and will help shape Danone Canada’s legal and compliance frameworks, ultimately promoting and protecting the business.
Main responsibilities
- Promote and protect Danone’s businesses, innovations and assets by ensuring the respect of legal and compliance frameworks, according to Danone’s Corporate policies and applicable laws;
- Advise on marketing and advertising, food law, promotions law, regulatory, import-exports, IP, social media, consumer complaints, anti-spam legislation, data privacy for all Danone businesses in Canada;
- Ensure compliance of communications, on all supports (TV copies, video clips, Radios spots, Billboards, leaflets, websites, POS or health care professionals materials, etc.), with internally defined guidelines and positions as well as with applicable Canadian legislation;
- Negotiate, draft and review of various agreements (supply, services, distribution, sponsorship, agency, etc.) with key Danone stakeholders;
- Monitor and anticipate legal and business trends and ensure comprehensive and on-going knowledge of subjects that have the potential to impact the businesses in Canada;
- Train and inform stakeholders (Marketing, marketing agencies and Sales teams) on Competition law, Contracts, Advertising & Promotions law, Data Privacy and Anti-Spam laws;
The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications and competencies:
- Member of the Ontario Bar (or another Common Law province) or the Quebec Bar;
- Between 5 to 7 years of relevant experience;
- Experience in a reputable law firm an asset;
- Knowledge of the French language is an important asset;
- A strong business sense, pragmatic and results-oriented;
- Excellent analysis skills and ability to synthesize;
- Very organized, autonomous and takes initiative;
- Ability to collaborate and work with multidisciplinary teams;
- Ability to work under pressure with tight delays;
- Some travelling required.
