Family Law Lawyer

SV Law has an exciting opportunity for a lawyer to join our busy Family Law Practice Group at our Guelph location.  We are seeking a driven and talented lawyer with 3 to 5 years’ experience in Family Law.

THE ROLE:

You will be exposed to a broad range of Family Law matters, including separation, divorce, property division, custody and access, and support.  You will be responsible for:

• meeting and communicating with clients to provide them with advice regarding their rights and obligations
• conducting and reviewing legal research
• drafting, reviewing, and/or negotiating a variety of documents, including marriage contracts, cohabitation agreements, separation agreements, financial statements, pleadings, mediation briefs, etc.
• representing clients in alternative dispute resolution and court proceedings
• liaising with other professionals, including accountants, business and property valuators, and counselors

WHAT YOU BRING:

• a member of the Ontario Bar in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario
• solid knowledge of Family Law statutes, regulations, and procedures
• demonstrated experience appearing before courts
• the ability to effectively manage a high volume of work, self-motivated, and entrepreneurial
• excellent research, drafting and negotiation skills, and detail-oriented
• eager to take the lead on files as the opportunity arises
• team-oriented and collaborative
• excellent oral communication and public speaking skills
• an enthusiastic and responsive approach to client requirements with excellent people skills
