Gillian Hnatiw of Lerners LLP recognized as a leading lawyer under age 40

Lerners LLP is proud to announce that Gillian Hnatiw received a 2015 Lexpert Rising Star Award at a gala held on November 19, 2015.  This award honours leading lawyers under age 40 who are recognized for their accomplishments within the legal profession as well as their social contributions beyond it.  In selecting Gillian for this award, Lexpert recognized her talent, skill, insight and knowledge beyond her years.

Since her call to the bar in 2003, Gillian’s practice has expanded into three main areas: representing sexual-assault and abuse victims in compensation claims and criminal proceedings for nonconsensual dissemination of intimate images and wrongful non-disclosure of sexually transmitted diseases; defending against actions alleging medical malpractice; and acting in administrative and constitutional law proceedings before the Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario, the Criminal Injuries Compensation Board, the Health Professions Appeal and Review Board and Coroner’s inquests.  She currently acts as counsel to the Children’s Aid Society of Toronto at the inquest into the death of Katelynn Sampson and has acted as pro bono counsel to the Canadian Civil Liberties Association before the Supreme Court of Canada in the Omar Khadr case.  Gillian regularly offers behind-the-scenes pro bono legal advice to sexual assault victims.
