Hicks Morley Congratulates New Partner Siobhan O’Brien
January 9, 2019Hicks Morley is pleased to announce that Siobhan O’Brien has joined the firm’s partnership. Siobhan is a labour and employment lawyer practising out of our Ottawa office. Siobhan appears as counsel in labour and employment disputes before the Human Rights Tribunal, the courts, grievance arbitrators and the Ontario Labour Relations Board. She also participates in the employment and labour law aspects of business transactions, including mergers, acquisitions and business restructurings and has extensive experience in strategic collective bargaining and strike management.
Siobhan is a frequent guest speaker at employment and human resources law events and speaks on a variety of employment issues affecting the workplace. Since 2017, Siobhan has been the moderator of the employment panel for the County of Carleton Law Association’s Annual Civil Litigation Conference and is a current member of the planning committee for the conference. She has become a sought-after speaker on gender identity and transgender legal issues. In May 2017 she appeared on behalf of the Canadian Bar Association before the Senate committee hearing presentations on Bill C-16, an Act to Amend the Canadian Human Rights Act and the Criminal Code, in relation to gender identity. Siobhan has presented on the topic of gender identity to the Ontario Bar Association and other legal organizations for several years.
