Willms & Shier Environmental Lawyers LLP is proud to announce that senior associate Jacquelyn Stevens has been certified by The Law Society of Upper Canada as an Environmental Law Specialist.

Jacquelyn is a senior associate at Willms & Shier Environmental Lawyers LLP. Jacquelyn has significant expertise representing a wide range of clients in environmental civil litigation, defence of prosecutions by environmental regulators, and at administrative appeals and hearings. Jacquelyn also provides effective advice and solutions for environmental due diligence and compliance, brownfields/contaminated site remediation, and environmental approvals for air, odour, noise and waste. Jacquelyn has a separate practice advising both First Nations and private sector clients on Aboriginal environmental law issues.

Jacquelyn appears before the Ontario Environmental Review Tribunal, the Ontario Provincial Court, Ontario Superior Court of Justice and the Ontario Court of Appeal. Jacquelyn prosecutes and defends environmental lawsuits. She advises on cross-boundary migration of contamination and remediation options during civil litigation and has significant expertise litigating contamination issues at dry cleaning operations and gas stations. Jacquelyn defends clients against quasi-criminal environmental prosecutions by regulatory authorities such as the Ontario Ministry of the Environment and Climate Change. Jacquelyn also appeals regulatory orders and approvals before environmental tribunals and other administrative bodies.

Jacquelyn is a frequent speaker about environmental law and litigation issues at leading external legal and industry conferences and seminars such as Envirogate and CANECT, ICSC’s Canadian Shopping Centre Law Conference, EPIC and others. She also writes regularly articles on environmental law topics, including articles for Fabricare Canada Magazine, Influents and other publications. In addition to her law degree, Jacquelyn has a B.Sc. in Earth Sciences from Dalhousie University, a Master of Science in Geology from St. Francis Xavier University, and a Master of Studies in Environmental Law from Vermont Law School. Jacquelyn is called to the bar in Ontario.
