Smart & Biggar welcomes Matthew Norton as Associate in Ottawa
September 20, 2018Prior to entering law, Matthew Norton obtained his Master’s degree and worked as a research technician in the fields of cellular biology and genome-wide RNA interference screening. Matthew’s clients appreciate his experience and knowledge of life sciences that allows him to understand the complexities of their products.
His practice focusses on intellectual property litigation, covering both the federal and provincial courts and all aspects of intellectual property law, including patents, trademarks and copyright. Matthew works with a variety of Canadian and international clients of all sizes and spanning a broad range of industries to help grow and protect their IP portfolios.
During his legal studies at the University of Ottawa, Matthew graduated summa cum laude and on the Dean’s Honour List. He received several awards including the Daniel A. Artola Intellectual Property Award, the John E. Read Prize for Public International Law, the Corbin Estates Law Prize, the John A. Kavanagh Memorial Scholarship for Criminal Law and Procedure and a law school Entrance Scholarship.
