Borden Ladner Gervais LLP (BLG) is seeking an experienced Real Estate Lawyer with significant experience in Commercial Leasing to join their team. The ideal candidate will have 4 to 8 years of post-call commercial real estate experience, with a significant portion of their practice devoted to commercial leasing, either gained from a reputable law firm or in-house legal department.
BLG’s Commercial Real Estate Group, comprised of more than 50 lawyers nationally, has consistently been recognized for their industry expertise in the country’s top legal rankings. Their integrated group facilitates transactions for some of the country’s leading REITs and pension funds, developers and builders, as well as governments, governmental agencies, and lending institutions. The firm’s Leasing Team advises on matters ranging from simple commercial issues to some of the most complicated leasing transactions in Canada.
The successful candidate will take a leadership role with respect to sophisticated leasing files. Responsibilities will include: representing landlords and tenants of all sizes with respect to negotiating and drafting retail, office and industrial lease agreements and ancillary documentation; assisting in the resolution of tenant disputes; and providing legal advice on lease defaults, risk allocation and insolvency matters.
