Junior Employment Lawyer (1-3 Years of Experience)
17 hours agoAt Seabrook Workplace Law, we live our core value of “Good People. Good Work.” This is a reflection of the clients we work with and who we are as a firm. We believe the practice of employment law is about people, so we have built a culture that celebrates diversity, and empowers our people to be their authentic selves everyday (we even put that on our website).
We practise law, but we are not a traditional law firm. We are not focused on hierarchy. We are focused on excellence, and we know that collegiality is a necessary ingredient in delivering the high-quality work that we provide. With SWL, you will not just be another associate. You will be an integral part of our team and you will be given the mentorship and opportunities that are necessary for your growth and achievement. At the same time, you will not be micromanaged. We expect you to have the work ethic, knowledge, and skills to undertake your tasks without having a senior lawyer questioning every decision you make.
In addition to law, we offer human resources consulting to help our clients with their entire employer journey. We also have a robust workplace investigation and restoration practice. Working at SWL gives you an expansive, strategic, and practical-driven engagement with workplace law and human resources.
We are one of the few employment law firms practising immigration law. If you are interested, you will have the opportunity to learn immigration law and to see its intersection with our clients’ employment needs.
We are looking for a talented and driven junior lawyer to join our team. Our firm is fully remote, offering flexibility while maintaining a strong sense of collaboration and teamwork. We take pride in our firm and in our people just as much as we take pride in delivering valuable, exceptional services to our clients.
Who We Are Looking For
We are seeking a junior lawyer with 1-3 years of experience who is eager to grow, take on responsibility, and develop their litigation skills. The ideal candidate is:
- A strong legal thinker with excellent analytical and research abilities.
- A skilled writer with the ability to draft precise and persuasive legal documents.
- Confident in oral advocacy and interested in litigation.
- Organized, efficient, and capable of managing workload in a remote environment.
- Professional, respectful, and committed to client service.
- Someone who thrives in a collaborative environment and contributes to the growth of the firm.
- Aligned with SWL’s values and committed to practicing law in a way that reflects Service, Wellness, and Legacy.
Key Responsibilities
- Advising employer clients on all aspects of employment law.
- Representing clients in litigation, including at courts, tribunals, and arbitrations.
- Conducting legal research and drafting pleadings, motions, and appellate materials.
- Managing files and handling all aspects of legal proceedings from inception to resolution.
- Participating in business development, client management, and firm growth initiatives.
- Leveraging legal technology, including Clio, Google Workspace, and legal research tools such as BlueJ Legal and Alexsi.
Why Join SWL?
- Commitment to Service – We prioritize delivering value to our clients and community, and take the time to understand our clients, their goals and desired outcomes.
- Focus on Wellness – We practice law in a healthy and happy environment, encouraging each team member to show up as their authentic self.
- Dedication to Legacy – We strive daily to create a legacy of diversity and inclusion for our team, clients, and community.
- Professional Growth – You will be given responsibility early on, with mentorship and support to help you develop your practice.
- Flexible and Remote Work – We operate in a fully remote environment with structured opportunities for team collaboration.
- Supportive and Engaging Culture – We foster a collegial environment where lawyers can thrive and do their best work.
- Competitive Compensation – We offer a strong compensation package, including salary, performance-based bonuses, and health benefits.
Qualifications
- J.D. from an accredited law school and a member in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario.
- 1-3 years of experience practicing employment law or litigation.
- Strong research, writing, and advocacy skills.
- Excellent time management and ability to work independently in a remote setting.
- Commitment to professionalism, integrity, and client service.
How to Apply
We are not looking for a traditional cover letter. Instead, we want to hear about who you are and why you would be a great fit at SWL. This can be in any format you choose—a written letter, a video, an audio message, or something else creative that helps us get to know you. What matters most is that your submission is authentic and gives us insight into your personality, values, and approach to law.
In addition to this covering communication, please submit:
- Your resume;
- A legal writing sample (or two) demonstrating your analytical and writing skills; and
- Your law school transcripts.
