Position Overview:
Cabot Management is seeking a Legal Counsel to join its dynamic team in Toronto.  Reporting to the General Counsel, the Legal Counsel will be involved in all aspects of Cabot Management’s business which include supporting the golf resorts in development and operations.  There are also a number of initiatives at the Cabot Management level which include new acquisitions.  Legal Counsel will work with external counsel in various jurisdictions as well as with internal business partners to achieve Cabot’s objectives in a manner that is true to Cabot’s mission, vision and values.  While there will be many challenging legal matters to advise on there will also be simple projects that the legal team will manage in a cost effective way.

The ideal candidate will have experience in commercial real estate development and financing and have a solid foundation in corporate and commercial law.

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Support the General Counsel and the real estate development team
  • Provide proactive, pragmatic legal advice and support to business units on a wide range of day-to-day commercial matters, marketing campaigns, intellectual property, non-disclosure matters, employment matters
  • Review, draft, interpret and negotiate a range of contracts for the business
  • Identify business and legal risk and make recommendations on how issues should be addressed to mitigate corporate liability

Education & Experience:

  • Qualified to practice law in a Canadian province or a US state
  • JD, LL.B. or equivalent
  • 4-5 years of corporate legal experience with a real estate focus
  • Experience in finance and lending

Qualifications: 

  • Technical competence in a variety of legal areas
  • Ability to simplify and effectively communicate legal concepts for non- legal audience
  • Ability and willingness to make pragmatic decisions with a creative and innovative approach to problem solving and influence decision-making at the operational level
  • Sophisticated interpersonal and relationship management skills, including ability to collaborate with a variety of stakeholders
  • Ability to work independently and with teams
  • Excellent time management skills and demonstrated ability to prioritize and meet conflicting demands
