Job Description – Legal Counsel, Programming
Bell Media is seeking a Legal Counsel to join its Legal & Regulatory team, focusing on international content acquisition and original Canadian programming. Reporting to the Senior Legal Counsel, the Legal Counsel will provide commercial legal advice and hands-on collaboration to support the Bell Media and Bell TV teams in content negotiations, with a focus on licensing agreements. The role will be responsible for matters relating to traditional television and digital platforms, and will work closely with a variety of business teams, including programming, digital, sales, rights management, and marketing.
Based out of the Queen Street West location in Toronto (currently the role is remote), the Legal Counsel will operate in a fast-paced, dynamic, and team-oriented work environment. As the ideal candidate, you will have two to five years of commercial law experience, gained at a reputable law firm or a large corporation, with significant demonstrated interest in the television broadcasting industry and emerging digital platforms. Success in this position requires excellent communication and interpersonal skills, strong drafting skills, business acumen, and the ability to take initiative and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
Relevant experience in or familiarity with the broadcasting industry and digital distribution landscape, and/or experience working with development, production, distribution and/or licensing agreements is strongly preferred. A background in the Canadian media industry and an understanding of Canadian content processes and funding would be considered an asset. Bilingualism would also be an asset, but is not required.

Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities

Education and Professional Skills/Knowledge
· LL.B. or J.D. degree (or equivalent).
· Good standing with a Canadian Law Society.
· 2-5 years of commercial law experience, gained at a reputable law firm or a large corporation, with significant demonstrated interest in the television broadcasting industry and emerging digital platforms.
· Ability to operate and thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic, and team-oriented work environment.
· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, strong drafting skills, business acumen, and the ability to take initiative.
