A leading provider of residential renovation services across Canada is seeking an experienced Collections Debt Lawyer to join their team. About the Role
As a Collections Debt Lawyer, you will play a key role in leading debt recovery efforts, minimizing liabilities, and managing legal negotiations. You will represent the company in court, enforce contracts, and develop effective strategies to mitigate financial risks, ensuring the company’s interests are safeguarded.
Key Responsibilities
- Debt Recovery:
- Lead efforts to collect outstanding debts and recover funds owed to the company by clients, contractors, or other parties.
- Minimizing Company Liabilities:
- Resolve legal matters involving amounts owed by the company
- Legal Negotiations:
- Negotiate settlements, payment plans, and other agreements to maximize recovery while minimizing legal costs.
- Litigation:
- Represent the company in court for debt recovery cases, ensuring favourable outcomes.
- Contract Enforcement:
- Enforce contracts and agreements to ensure compliance with payment terms and obligations.
- Risk Mitigation:
- Assess the financial stability of debtors and develop strategies to reduce risks associated with non-payment.
- Legal Documentation:
- Draft and review demand letters, settlement agreements, and other documents related to debt recovery.
- Regulatory Compliance:
- Ensure that all debt recovery practices adhere to relevant laws and regulations.
Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (JD) or Bachelor of Laws (LLB): A law degree from an accredited institution.
- Licensed to Practice: Admitted to the Law Society of Ontario (LSO) and in good standing.
- Experience: Minimum 5 years of experience in debt recovery, commercial litigation, or a related legal field.
- Negotiation Skills: Proven ability to negotiate effectively with debtors and opposing counsel.
- Litigation Experience: Strong background in representing clients in court for debt recovery cases.
- Contract Law: Expertise in contract enforcement and related legal matters.
- Analytical Skills: Strong ability to assess financial risks and develop effective recovery strategies.
