Polley Faith LLP welcomes its newest associate Jake Wilson
October 24, 2013Before joining the firm, Jacob worked as an attorney for two New York-based firms, Sullivan & Cromwell and Shearman & Sterling, and was located in their London and Toronto offices, respectively. He has advised on a wide variety of complex international corporate, securities, and mergers & acquisitions matters, including representing companies, sovereigns or financial institutions in approximately $50 billion of securities offerings.
While at Shearman & Sterling LLP, Jacob worked in a pro bono capacity as a visiting attorney with the Office of the Prosecutor at the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (ICTR), located in Arusha, Tanzania, where he assisted in an appeal concerning a former minister in the Rwandan government that presided over the 1994 genocide.
Jacob previously served as clerk to the Hon. Justice Morris J. Fish of the Supreme Court of Canada, assisting in a diversity of criminal, constitutional, and civil cases. Jacob studied law at McGill University, where he received a B.C.L./LL.B., and graduated with a Gold Medal.
Prior to law school, Jacob was a policy analyst with the Institute on Governance in Ottawa, focussing on Aboriginal governance. Jacob also participated in the Parliamentary Internship Programme, providing legislative and policy assistance to two Members of Parliament.
Jacob also holds an M.A. from the University of Warwick, where he studied as a Mackenzie King scholar, and a B.A. (Hons.) from Trent University. As part of his undergraduate studies, he completed the Foundation Year Programme at the University of Kings College in Halifax.
Early in his career, Jacob spent two years volunteering with international development and human rights groups in Ecuador, Bolivia and Cambodia. He speaks English, French, and Spanish.
Jacob was called to the New York bar in 2008 and the Ontario bar in 2009. He is a member of the Advocates Society and the Law Society of Upper Canada.
