Christopher Horkins Joins Cassels Brock

September 4, 2012

Chris is an associate in the Advocacy Group. Prior to joining Cassels Brock as an associate, he was both a summer and articling student at the firm. As an articling student, Chris was involved in a wide variety of litigation matters, including:

  • Representing major online publishers in a claim for systematic copyright infringement and breach of contract
  • Obtaining recognition and enforcement of a substantial foreign judgment against the Canadian assets of a foreign debtor

During his articles Chris gained experience drafting pleadings, factums and legal memoranda, conducting legal research, negotiating settlements and assisting with advising clients and responding to client inquiries. Chris has appeared before a variety of courts and tribunals including the Ontario Social Benefits Tribunal, Ontario Court of Justice and Ontario Superior Court of Justice.

Chris graduated in 2011 with a J.D. from Queen’s University Faculty of Law. While at Queen’s Law, Chris was a recipient of the Canada Law Book Company Prize in Torts, the Samworth Advocacy Prize and the Dennis Marshall Contribution Award. Chris volunteered at the Queen’s Legal Aid clinic and was recognized for his work with the MacDougall-Watson Memorial Award in 2009. Prior to embarking on a legal career, Chris worked for many summers as a camp counsellor and director and still has a great love for the outdoors.
