Bencher election 2015

Re-Elect John Callaghan for Bencher

April 10, 2015

I have been a bencher for 4 years.  I have learnt much about the different views and different backgrounds of our profession.  I wish to be re-elected so that I can listen and, hopefully I can lead, on the key issues of our time.

The Law Society plays a vital role for our profession and in our civil society. Not only does the Law Society regulate lawyers in the public interest, but it takes a leading role in facilitating access to justice and in protecting the right of Canadians to an independent bar. Thankfully, we live in a province where the role of lawyers is respected by our courts and by our legislators. Unlike in some jurisdictions, ours is a profession that is permitted to govern itself in the public interest. Nonetheless, we must remain vigilant to ensure that our profession remains independent and responsive to the public that we serve.

Your vote in this election gives you a say as to how our profession governs itself over the next four years . So, please take the time to vote.
