Nickolas Tzoulas joins Bentham IMF

Nickolas Tzoulas, a seventh-year lawyer from the litigation and dispute resolution group of Blake, Cassels & Graydon LLP, joins Bentham IMF as Legal Counsel. His hire comes 18 months after Naomi Loewith, a litigator from Lenczner Slaght LLP, became the company’s first Investment Manager in Canada.

In his new role, Nickolas assesses the merits of commercial disputes submitted for funding, and advises Bentham IMF whether its investment criteria have been met. Once a matter is funded, Nickolas uses his years of experience as a corporate-commercial litigator, adjunct law professor and in-house counsel to provide thoughtful analysis and strategic input as the case progresses. Ultimately, he acts as a trusted resource for the litigant and their counsel—one who appreciates the financial complexity and legal nuances at issue in the dispute.

Nickolas brings a wealth of relevant experience to the role. During his time practicing at Blakes, he appeared as counsel before various arbitration tribunals, administrative bodies, and courts, including three appearances before the Supreme Court of Canada. In recent years, he has also taught upper-year contract remedies at Osgoode Hall Law School, worked in-house with the litigation teams at both Scotiabank and Royal Bank of Canada, and provided free advice and representation for clients of Pro Bono Law Ontario. Prior to practicing, Nickolas clerked at the Supreme Court of Canada for Justice Ian Binnie and Justice Michael Moldaver. He holds an LL.B. from the University of Ottawa, where he ranked 3rd in his class, and a B.A. from McGill University, where he was awarded the Scarlet Key.
