Gillian Hnatiw & Co. Welcomes Laura Snowdon

Gillian Hnatiw & Co. is delighted to announce that Laura Snowdon has joined the firm.

Laura received her LL.M. in International Legal Studies from New York University, which she attended as a Hauser Global Scholar, the Thomas M. Franck Scholar in International Law, and the Canadian Federation of University Women’s Ruth Binnie Fellow. She earned her J.D. from Western University, where she was a Blakes Scholar and the recipient of the Fasken Martineau DuMoulin LLP Award for achieving the highest standing in the first year of the program, as well as a number of other academic awards.

During law school, Laura volunteered with the Family Law Project at Pro Bono Students Canada and for the Sexual Assault Center London. She also worked as a legal research assistant to Professor Melanie Randall, specializing in human rights law, intimate partner sexual violence and trauma-informed approaches to law.

Laura articled as a clerk to Chief Justice Strathy, Justice Gillese and Justice Watt at the Court of Appeal for Ontario. The following year, she clerked for Justice Abella at the Supreme Court of Canada. She was called to the Bar of Ontario in 2018.

In addition to her files at the firm, Laura has joined Gillian on the Commission Counsel Team at the Mass Casualty Commission. The Commission is an independent public inquiry created to examine the April 18-19, 2020 mass casualty in Nova Scotia and to provide meaningful recommendations to help protect Canadians in the future.
