Bennett Jones Welcomes Associate Michael S. Shakra

Bennett Jones is pleased to welcome Michael Shakra to our Corporate Department in our Toronto office.

Michael practices commercial law with an emphasis on insolvency, restructuring, bankruptcy, secured transactions and enforcement of debtor and creditor rights. Michael has significant experience in complex cross-border restructurings across a number of industries, including oil and gas, construction, retail and manufacturing. Michael also has significant experience in the determination of contested creditor claims in some of Canada’s largest insolvency proceedings.

Prior to joining Bennett Jones, Michael practiced at a leading restructuring and insolvency boutique in Toronto and with the insolvency and restructuring group of one of Canada’s largest firms. Prior to his call to the Bar, Michael spent time as a Short-Term Consultant with Debt Resolution and Business Exit Group of the International Finance Corporation and the World Bank Group in Washington D.C.

Michael has co-authored a number of insolvency related publications and is currently the National Editor of LexisNexis’ Commercial Insolvency Reporter.
