Senior Litigation Lawyer – Plaintiff Personal Injury (5+ Years)

October 27, 2026

Auger Hollingsworth is an accident and injury law firm with offices in Ottawa and Toronto, on a deliberate path to becoming Ontario’s largest personal injury law firm. We’re looking for an experienced plaintiff-side litigator to take ownership of a serious caseload and drive it to resolution — with real infrastructure behind you, not in spite of a lack of it.

If you are currently carrying a significant file volume on your own, at a firm where growth has stalled, or as a sole practitioner weighing whether to keep building alone or plug into a larger platform — we’d like to talk, even if you weren’t actively looking.

The Role

This is a senior litigation seat built around file velocity and resolution quality. You’ll drive cases from the issuance of the Statement of Claim through mediation, pre-trial, and trial, with the goal of top compensation for clients and a caseload that moves — not one that sits.

You bring the advocacy: discovery, mediation, trial readiness, case valuation. We bring the infrastructure: a dedicated team of paralegals, law clerks and legal assistants, a modernized case management system, AI-assisted workflows, and a leadership team focused on clearing obstacles off your desk so your time goes toward lawyering and client outcomes, not administration.

Open to a Different Conversation

If you run your own practice or carry your own book of files and have ever wondered what it would look like to join a larger, better-resourced platform — keep your client relationships and litigation style, but shed the overhead — we’re genuinely open to structuring that conversation differently than a standard employment offer. Reach out confidentially even if you’re not sure a traditional hire is the right fit.

Your Support System

You’ll work in close partnership with a dedicated team of paralegals, law clerks and legal assistants who build your cases alongside you, so your time is spent on strategy, advocacy and settlement negotiation — not administration. You’ll have mentorship, collaboration, clear standards, and a leadership team dedicated to removing obstacles from your desk.

We’re in the middle of a deliberate investment in firm infrastructure: a new Chief Operating Officer, a Director of People & Operations, a modernized case management system, AI-assisted workflows, and an expanded case management support team. This role is being built to plug directly into that system — not to inherit an outdated one.

Flexible remote or hybrid arrangements mean you manage a professional practice on your own terms, not a commute. Our unlimited vacation policy reflects a simple premise: we trust accountable lawyers to manage their own time.

What You’ll Do

First Month

  • Case Portfolio Deep Dive: Audit your assigned files to understand current status, upcoming deadlines, and evaluation opportunities.
  • System Integration: Get fluent in our Case Management System and internal litigation protocols.
  • Strategy Alignment: Review current litigation priorities with your team.
  • Relationship Building: Build a working rhythm with your dedicated paralegal and support team.

First 90 Days

  • Active Advocacy: Take the lead on examinations for discovery, motions and mediations for your portfolio.
  • Case Valuation: Conduct comprehensive reviews of your files to assess case-building needs and strategic next steps.
  • Pipeline Velocity: Identify, plan and execute moving your files to their next procedural stage.
  • Scorecard Ownership: Begin reporting weekly litigation metrics — mediations held, files resolved, cycle time.

First 6–12 Months

  • Resolution Engine: Hit targeted settlement volumes and average case values.
  • Expert Management: Build and manage relationships with top-tier medical and vocational experts.
  • Trial Prep: Move files post-mediation toward pre-trial and trial with full readiness.
  • Process Improvement: Contribute to the firm’s Standard Operating Procedures for litigation.

First Year and Beyond

  • Market Leadership: Handle the firm’s most complex and high-value catastrophic files.
  • Mentorship: Mentor junior associates, clerks and articling students.
  • Legacy Impact: Deliver results that build the firm’s reputation as a leader in Ontario PI.

What Sets You Up for Success

Experience

  • 5+ years of plaintiff personal injury litigation experience, in-house, at another firm, or as a sole practitioner — strong candidates with somewhat less tenure but a clear record of independently resolved files are encouraged to apply.
  • A track record of resolving files through mediation and/or trial.
  • Experience managing a substantial file volume (75–100 files at steady state) with strong attention to detail.

Skills

  • Advocacy: Strong negotiation, discovery and courtroom skills.
  • Procedural Knowledge: Working knowledge of the Ontario Rules of Civil Procedure and the Insurance Act.
  • Case Valuation: Ability to assess quantum of damages and liability early in the file lifecycle.
  • Technology: Comfort using CMS tools, AI-assisted workflows, and digital trial binders — or willingness to adopt them quickly.
  • Relationship-Building: Strong relationships with firm colleagues, defence bar counterparts and the Court.

Traits

  • Solution-Oriented: You treat a defence refusal as a problem to solve, not a dead end.
  • High Accountability: You own your numbers, your deadlines, and your files.
  • Empathetic but Objective: You care about your clients and stay grounded in the legal and medical realities of each file.
  • Builder Mindset: You’re energized by helping a growing firm build better systems, not just following existing ones.

Who Tends Not to Thrive Here

We move quickly, track metrics transparently, and actively prosecute files rather than waiting on defence timelines. If you prefer to practice broadly across several areas of law rather than focus on plaintiff PI, or you’re looking for a slower-paced, less metrics-driven environment, this likely isn’t the right fit for either of us — and that’s a fine thing to know early.

Why This Role Matters

  • Maximizing financial recovery for our clients.
  • Reducing the time it takes for an injured person to get their life back on track.
  • Setting the standard for advocacy excellence in the province.

Compensation, Perks & Benefits

  • Remote, hybrid or in-office — your choice.
  • Unlimited vacation policy.
  • Pension matching program.
  • Full health, dental and disability benefits.
  • Total compensation in the $300,000+ range: generous base salary plus quarterly incentive bonuses tied to settlement and growth targets.
  • For principals joining with an existing book: compensation structure open to discussion.
