January 22, 2021Ryan’s practice focuses on insolvency and debt restructuring, as well as commercial lending and debt financing. He works on insolvency-related matters of all sorts, including corporate restructurings under the Companies’ Creditors Arrangement Act, bankruptcies, receiverships and proposals under the Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act, and out-of-court debt restructurings or forbearance arrangements.
Ryan also regularly works with creditors and debtors on various debt-financing and lending transactions. This includes leveraged acquisition financing, asset-based lending, real estate financings, syndicated credit facilities, multi-jurisdictional financings, and “turnaround” or distress lending.
Pro bono initiatives are important to Ryan, and he volunteers with Pro Bono Students Canada in association with the University of British Columbia as a lawyer supervisor for the UBC ID Support Clinic (assisting residents of Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside obtain governing-issued identification documents, enabling access to government services).
