Dany Assaf joins Torys’ Toronto office

Torys is pleased to announce that Dany Assaf has joined the firm’s Toronto office as a partner in its Competition and Antitrust Practice Group. Among his many recognitions, Dany has been identified by Chambers as one of Canada’s leading competition/antitrust lawyers for the past several years, and additionally ranked as a leading lawyer for Investment Canada matters. Earlier in his career, he was named as one of Global Competition Review’s Top 40 Competition Lawyers Under 40, and as one of Canada’s Rising Stars (top 40 under 40) by Lexpert magazine.

Dany provides advice on the full range of competition law and foreign investment matters and has played a leading role in many significant transactions and investigations. He acts for both Canadian and international clients, and has been recognized by Lexpert as a leading cross-border lawyer. He is a co-author of LexisNexis Butterworths’ Competition and Antitrust Law: Canada and the United States, an associate editor of ABA’s Antitrust magazine, and an adjunct professor of law at the University of Western Ontario.

Dany, who speaks fluent Arabic, was also one of the first Canadian lawyers to develop relationships with sovereign wealth funds and other businesses in the Gulf region as part of his practice. He has extensive practical experience in these markets. He has been a leader in this area and was a board member of the Canada-Arab Business Council on behalf of his former firm. He was the co-founder and instructor of the inaugural Islamic Finance course at the University of Toronto’s Rotman School of Management’s Executive Program.
