Ian is a partner and a member of the Financial Services Group at Aird & Berlis LLP. Ian articled at the firm in 2007/2008, and in September of 2008 he joined the firm as an associate. He became a partner in January of 2014.
Ian’s practice focuses on insolvency and restructuring law with an emphasis on both the litigation and commercial aspects of turnarounds, reorganizations, liquidations, security enforcement, plans of arrangement under the Companies Creditors Arrangement Act, proposals and bankruptcies under the Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act, and the purchase and sale of distressed assets and businesses.
Ian advises debtors, secured and unsecured creditors, court-appointed officers, purchasers, financiers and other major stakeholders on domestic and cross-border insolvency and restructuring matters. Ian regularly appears on behalf of clients before the Ontario Superior Court of Justice, including the Commercial List and the Bankruptcy Court.
Ian is an executive member of the National Bankruptcy, Insolvency & Restructuring Section of the Canadian Bar Association.
