Gluckstein Lawyers Welcomes Sumaiya Akhter as an Associate

Gluckstein Lawyers is excited to welcome Sumaiya Akhter as our newest Associate on our Class Action and Mass Tort legal team.

Sumaiya Akhter is a civil litigation lawyer with extensive experience in complex class action cases involving privacy law and consumer protection law. She completed her undergraduate degree in the Faculty of Law at Karl Franzen’s University of Graz, Graz, Austria. While in Graz, she completed an internship at the Criminal Court. She moved to Canada in 2019 to attend law school at the University of New Brunswick, where she was a graduate research assistant for the Faculty of Law. Sumaiya graduated law school with a Juris Doctor in 2021.

Sumaiya articled at the Department of Justice at the Office of the Attorney General in Fredericton, New Brunswick where she represented various federal government departments and developed litigation experience in labour and employment law, contract law and constitutional law.

Sumaiya is actively involved in the legal community. She is a member of the South Asian Bar Association and volunteers at Capital Rainbow Refuge, a non-profit organization that provides private sponsorship for LGBTQI+ refugees to Canada. In her free time she likes to dance, travel, read, write and draw. Sumaiya speaks German, English, Bangla, Hindi and French.
