When Edson Haines opened the doors to his one-man legal practice in 1935, few could have imagined the decades of growth, advocacy, and leadership that would follow for what eventually became Thomson Rogers LLP.
Today, the firm is more than 30 lawyers strong, with around 100 staff members, carrying forward a legacy nearly a century in the making.
So, to honour those 90 years of excellence in legal service, Thomson Rogers LLP gathered colleagues from the legal community for a milestone celebration at Noir in downtown Toronto.
Among the guests was the Honourable Todd McCarthy, M.P.P. and Minister of Environment, Conservation and Parks, who presented the firm with a commemorative certificate recognizing the significance of the 90-year anniversary.

Throughout its history, lawyers at Thomson Rogers have led high-stakes cases in personal injury, medical malpractice, class actions, family law, as well as municipal, planning, and expropriation law. The firm has been home to litigators known not only for their courtroom excellence and client advocacy, but also for their impact beyond legal practice. Alumni have gone on to shape legal policy and civic governance as judicial and political leaders.
Even with nearly a century behind it, the firm is focused squarely on what lies ahead. This anniversary-year marks more than a milestone. It’s a moment to reflect, recalibrate, and reaffirm the principles that will shape Thomson Rogers’ next chapter and the generations who will write it.
